Ballet’s Bitcoin Pizza Day Promotion

It is that time of the year again, fellow HODLers!

On May 22nd, 2021 it will be the 11-Year anniversary of the legendary union between the world’s first cryptocurrency and everyone’s favorite food. We are of course referring to Bitcoin Pizza Day, a day made famous by the exchange of 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. You do the math.

For those of you unfamiliar with this story, let us take a dive into the annals of bitcoin’s nascent history. In 2010, bitcoin was still in the primordial ooze, valued at less than a penny. A computer programmer by the name of Laszlo Hanyecz was at the time helping to maintain the bitcoin network, and receiving his payment in the same currency. On May 22, 2010, Hancyez found someone willing to accept 10,000 BTC in exchange for two large Papa John’s pizzas.

It is important to remember that at the time, bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general was not understood. Hanyecz might be remembered today as the guy who -in hindsight- squandered a fortune on a midnight snack but it should also be noted that this marked the first recorded commercial transaction using cryptocurrency. While many would wince at his miscalculation, now worth at least half of a billion dollars, Hanyecz takes it all in sunny stride:

“People always ask. Yes, I wish I still had 10,000 Bitcoin, but that was a long time ago, and I still was glad to be part of it. I mean, I’m talking to you about it now. Bitcoin is still around. It’s popular. I get to be one of the pioneer guys. That’s worth something.”

He has even humorously set another benchmark by being the first, again, to purchase two pizzas with bitcoin; this time using the Bitcoin Lightning Network.

This year, in celebration of Laszlo Hanyecz’s avant-garde adoption and usage of bitcoin, Ballet is offering a special Pizza Day Sales Promotion!

From May 10th to May 25th, wallet purchases from the Ballet store will come with a special keychain (up to two per order), our approximation of a slice of 10,000 BTC pizza. We welcome you all to come claim your small slice of infamy!

Additionally, and in a spirit similar to Hanyecz own contributions to bitcoin, Ballet will also be gifting virtual tickets to attend a webinar featuring another early bitcoin adopter, our CEO, Bobby Lee. Wallet purchases at the Ballet Store during the May 10th-25th period will come with 1 free virtual ticket per order at the Ballet Store, to be sent to the provided email address in the month of June; be sure to stay tuned!

In this webinar, Lee will talk about his new book, “The Promise of Bitcoin,” as well as the future of cryptocurrency. Tune in to hear what insights Lee, a seasoned industry veteran, has to share from his 10+ years of experience in the cryptocurrency space. Our world has entered a new era of rampant money printing and inflation; Lee will explain where cryptocurrency fits in this new financial paradigm.

Purchases from our Ballet Store from May 10th to May 25th will give you the opportunity to receive invaluable insight into the future of finance; you will also receive symbolic memorabilia with which to mark this momentous occasion in the form of a Pizza keychain.
